The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George, has stated that homosexuality was previously classified as a mental disorder in some medical and scientific references in the United States until it was later removed following social advocacy campaigns.
He made the remarks while contributing to ongoing discussions on the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, 2025, commonly referred to as the anti-LGBTQ+ Bill.
According to him, individuals with such tendencies should be considered for psychiatric care, a statement that has added to the ongoing national debate on the proposed legislation.
The comments come amid heightened discussions surrounding the bill and its potential implications for law, health, and human rights in Ghana.
