Cape Verde make World Cup debut after historic qualification
Cape Verde are making their first-ever FIFA World Cup appearance at the 2026 tournament in the United States, one of four nations to debut at the competition. The African island nation, home to barely half a million people, secured qualification last October by finishing ahead of Cameroon. Despite fielding no players from Europe's top five leagues, the Blue Sharks reached the quarter-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations just two years ago. They face European champions Spain, Saudi Arabia, and Uruguay in the group stage.
Al Jazeera's Andy Richardson reports.
