New Ebola laboratory opens in DRC to speed up diagnosis
Health authorities in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo unveiled a new molecular biology laboratory in Bukavu on June 3 to speed up Ebola diagnosis in South Kivu Province. The laboratory was set up as the country responds to a growing outbreak of the Bundibugyo strain, which has reached 344 confirmed cases and 60 deaths, according to the latest WHO figures reported by Reuters. Officials said the new PCR equipment can identify the virus within hours, helping health workers isolate patients, trace contacts and respond faster.
