US says Lebanon, Israel commit to ceasefire to end fighting

Lebanon and Israel have agreed on the implementation of a ceasefire following negotiations in Washington. Importantly, Hezbollah, the Iranian-backed Lebanese armed group battling Israeli forces in the south of the country, has not been part of the negotiations and has refused to disarm. But Israel and Lebanon have proceeded with a fourth round of direct US-mediated talks—aimed at securing a 'comprehensive peace and security agreement.'
