The 500-bed Afari Military Hospital, which has missed several completion deadlines, is reportedly lying idle, with overgrown weeds taking over parts of the facility while installed medical equipment gathers dust.

The hospital, once expected to significantly ease congestion at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), remains non-operational despite its strategic importance to healthcare delivery in the Ashanti Region.

Health stakeholders say the operationalisation of the facility would greatly reduce pressure on KATH, which continues to experience congestion at its Accident and Emergency Centre.

Concerns are growing over delays in completing and activating the hospital, as patients and health workers continue to face challenges linked to limited bed capacity in the region's major referral facility.
