The Ga East Municipal Assembly has stepped up efforts to reduce the risk of flooding by demolishing structures illegally built on waterways and drainage channels in Haatso and nearby communities.

The exercise forms part of ongoing enforcement measures aimed at clearing blocked drainage systems and preventing the recurring flooding challenges in the municipality.

Authorities say the crackdown targets buildings and structures that obstruct the natural flow of stormwater, which has been a major cause of flooding in parts of Accra during heavy rains.

The Assembly has warned developers to comply with planning regulations or face similar enforcement actions as part of efforts to protect lives and property.
