Bagbin Criticises Foreign Aid Conditions Tied to Domestic Laws

The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has argued that linking foreign aid to the amendment of domestic laws in recipient countries violates the principles of the United Nations Charter.
Speaking at the 4th African Inter-Parliamentary Conference on Family, Sovereignty and Values, he stressed the need for development partners to respect the sovereignty and independence of African nations.
According to the Speaker, African countries must retain the right to determine their own laws, policies, and development priorities without external pressure.
He also cautioned against the erosion of African cultural identity under the guise of modernization, urging leaders across the continent to safeguard their values, traditions, and social structures while pursuing development.
The conference brought together parliamentarians and delegates from across Africa to discuss issues relating to family, sovereignty, youth development, moral leadership, and legislative responses to emerging social challenges.
