Commercial transport operators have announced a 20% increase in transport fares, effective June 2, 2026.

According to Asonaba Wiredu, the decision follows consultations between the Ghana Private Road Transport Union and other transport bodies.

The fare adjustment has been attributed to rising fuel prices, increasing costs of spare parts, insurance, roadworthy renewals, taxes, and local assembly charges.

The announcement is expected to affect thousands of commuters across the country, with concerns already being raised about the impact on the cost of living.
