DECISIVE! Government Cannot Spend $11,000 Per Fan for World Cup Travel - Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has explained why the government will not sponsor large-scale travel for Ghanaian supporters to attend the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Speaking at a diaspora town hall meeting on May 31, President Mahama revealed that the estimated cost of transporting, accommodating, feeding and providing match tickets for each supporter would be approximately $11,000.

He said such expenditure would be inconsistent with government's commitment to fiscal discipline and prudent management of public resources.

Instead, the President disclosed that government plans to procure match tickets for Ghanaians in the diaspora who wish to support the Black Stars at various host venues during the tournament.
