US Defense Chief Warns of China’s Military Rise at Shangri-La Dialogue

US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has warned of what he called "rightful alarm" over China's military buildup and expanding military activities across the Asia-Pacific region.

Speaking at the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore, Asia's premier security forum, Hegseth said the United States remains committed to maintaining the regional balance of power and preventing any single country from dominating the Pacific.

The Pentagon chief also addressed the war involving Iran, saying the US remains capable of resuming military operations if necessary and has sufficient military resources to respond globally.

His remarks come amid renewed scrutiny of US policy toward China and Taiwan following recent discussions between US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Defense leaders from across the region are meeting in Singapore to discuss security challenges, military cooperation and growing geopolitical tensions.
