Hundreds of residents displaced by the Weija Dam spillage are spending sleepless nights in churches, classrooms, and open spaces after floodwaters forced them out of their homes.

The controlled release of excess water from the dam, which began on Wednesday, has left many families stranded, struggling to secure shelter and basic necessities.

Affected residents say they are facing difficult living conditions and are appealing to authorities for urgent relief support and possible compensation as government considers further interventions in flood-prone areas.

Ghana Water Limited says the controlled spillage is necessary to protect the structural integrity of the dam as water levels continue to rise.

Residents continue to call for long-term solutions to prevent recurring flooding disasters in the area.
