Finance Minister Cassiel Ato Forson has declared that Ghana's economy has moved “from the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) to the Wellness Centre”, signalling what he describes as a strong shift from crisis management to sustained macroeconomic recovery.
Presenting an update to Parliament on Thursday, May 28, he said Ghana is now transitioning from reliance on external financial bailouts to a more credible reform partnership anchored in discipline and investor confidence.
He noted that the Policy Coordination Instrument (PCI) with the International Monetary Fund will play a key role in sustaining reforms, strengthening fiscal discipline, and supporting investor confidence.
Dr Ato Forson also indicated that Ghana does not expect to return to the IMF for another financial bailout in the foreseeable future, stressing that the country has moved from a recipient of emergency assistance to a policy partner.
He added that recent economic improvements reflect stronger fiscal management, improved debt trajectory, and coordinated policy action aimed at stabilising the economy.
According to government, the focus going forward is to maintain macroeconomic stability, strengthen growth, and avoid future cycles of economic crisis.
