Ablekuma West MCE Warns of Demolitions Over Floodway Obstructions at Otojor

The Municipal Chief Executive for Ablekuma West, George Kpakpo Allotey, has warned that structures obstructing waterways at Otojor within the Densu Delta Ramsar Site could be demolished as authorities intensify efforts to tackle flooding in the area.

He made the remarks during an inspection of the flood-prone community, blaming illegal developments, concrete barriers, and indiscriminate waste disposal for blocking the natural flow of water into the sea.

The MCE noted that the Assembly has not issued permits for construction within the wetland and cautioned residents against purchasing land in waterlogged areas.

He further disclosed that the Assembly is collaborating with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Forestry Commission to restore waterways and improve drainage systems.

Residents have also been warned that individuals caught dumping refuse into drains will face legal action as part of measures to reduce flooding risks.
