Indiana University Partners Ghana on Climate Education Initiative

Sixty-one teachers across Ghana have been trained on climate change to help champion the integration of climate education into the national curriculum.

The initiative, led by education experts in partnership with Indiana University, aims to strengthen Ghana's climate action efforts through education, research and collaboration.

Speaking at the 2026 Climate Health and Education Conference, Samuel Nyarko, Assistant Professor of Earth and Environmental Sciences at Indiana University Indianapolis, outlined the objectives of the workshop and the importance of climate awareness in schools.

Abigail Mercy Oppong Tetteh, Programme Manager of Indiana University Ghana Gateway, also stressed the importance of combining global expertise with local realities through targeted teacher training.

The initiative forms part of broader efforts to prepare young people and communities to respond effectively to climate and environmental challenges.
