Co-Chair of the Citizen Movement Against Corruption (CMAC), Edem Senanu, says it is unlikely that the Auditor-General wrongly implicated officials in the forensic audit into Ghana's hosting of the 13th African Games.
The Auditor-General's forensic report uncovered alleged financial irregularities involving contracts, procurement, accommodation, transport and infrastructure projects, recommending the recovery of over GHS579 million from several officials, including former Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif and other senior figures involved in the Local Organising Committee.
Speaking on Eyewitness News, Mr. Senanu argued that the repeated findings in the audit suggest possible breaches of financial procedures rather than errors by the auditors.
He explained that public financial management processes involve multiple layers of approval, including procurement and legal checks, before payments are made.
Mr. Senanu added that it is unlikely that all officials cited in the report would be fully exonerated, given the consistency of the audit findings.
Meanwhile, the former Sports Minister maintains his innocence, stating that time will prove he did nothing wrong.
