GIPC Clarifies New Investment Law Will NOT Open Retail Sector to Foreigners

The Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC) has clarified that the revised investment framework, which includes the removal of minimum capital requirements for foreign investors, will not open the informal retail sector to foreign participation.

This clarification follows growing public discussion after Parliament passed the Ghana Investment Promotion Bill, which is currently awaiting presidential assent.

According to GIPC, the new framework is designed to improve Ghana's investment climate while still protecting the informal retail sector for local operators.

Authorities say the policy aims to balance investor attraction with the safeguarding of domestic businesses in key areas of the economy.
