The governments of Ghana and Jamaica are set to sign a Memorandum of Understanding this afternoon to facilitate the cross-border recruitment and training of specialist healthcare workers.
The partnership is aimed at addressing severe workforce shortages in Jamaica, where the migration of healthcare professionals to high-income countries has placed significant pressure on public health systems.
Under the agreement, Ghanaian health personnel will be deployed in high-demand specialty areas including intensive care, oncology, paediatrics, and midwifery.
Speaking ahead of the signing, Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh said the initiative provides a structured framework to support workforce stability while maintaining Ghana's local healthcare standards.
The agreement is expected to deepen bilateral cooperation in health and create new opportunities for skilled Ghanaian professionals.
