Russia and China deepen energy ties as pipelines bypass Gulf disruption

Sanctions over the war in Ukraine have driven Russia to deepen energy ties with China, which has stepped up purchases of Russian oil and gas.

The 3,000km Power of Siberia pipeline and the Eastern Siberia–Pacific Ocean route underpin supplies, with land-based pipelines less exposed to Gulf shipping disruptions and the effective closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
