GSA Shuts Down 4 Chinese Mattress Companies Over Substandard Materials in Afienya

The Ghana Standards Authority (GSA) has shut down four Chinese-owned mattress manufacturing companies at Afienya near Tema in the Greater Accra Region for allegedly producing mattresses with substandard materials.

The companies—Yin Yuan Jia Limited, Mooda Limited, Asano Services, and Hue Sheng Company—are accused of using polystyrene instead of the approved polyurethane in the production of mattresses.

Speaking after an enforcement operation, the GSA Regional Manager, Clement Kubati, disclosed that the companies had been operating illegally and failed to meet required production standards.

He added that the Authority will collaborate with the Environmental Protection Agency and other relevant agencies to safely destroy the substandard materials seized during the operation.
