How a small Chinese city became China's pickleball capital
Pickleball may have been born in the United States, but one small city in central China is embracing the sport like nowhere else. Hebi, the smallest prefecture-level city in Henan Province, now has 300,000 regular pickleball players and nearly 1,600 courts. The city is hosting national championships, exporting locally made paddles overseas, training young athletes and even bringing the sport into schools. With hopes that pickleball could enter the Olympics by 2032, Hebi is betting that one small ball can help power economic growth, tourism and global recognition.
