Afghan refugees face deepening humanitarian crisis on return home, UNHCR warns
Thousands of people are returning to Afghanistan each day, all deported from Pakistan, in response to a flare-up of border tensions. At the Omari camp in Torkham, Afghan authorities and aid organisations are providing assistance. But the growing number of arrivals is raising concerns about how long support systems can cope with mass returns. Many people face an uncertain future in Afghanistan, including 10-year-old Ajwa who dreams of being able to return to school.
Arafat Jamal is the Representative of the UN high commissioner for refugees in Afghanistan. He says the international aid community is facing major challenges in the country.
