Iranians face uncertainty, scepticism as Trump claims deal to end war is near: Journalist
There are conflicting messages from the US and Iran on the progress made towards a peace deal. In the latest development, Iran says it's reviewing a US proposal to end the war. The Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei says Tehran will submit its response through Pakistani mediators. President Donald Trump says the US is dealing with Iranian leaders who “very much” want an agreement. He's also described talks over the past 24 hours as “very good”.
Independent journalist Sarah Odeima tells Al Jazeera that many Iranians feel deep uncertainty and scepticism about talk of a war-ending deal, after years of failed negotiations and rising economic hardship, and are now taking a cautious “wait-and-see” approach to the US–Iran talks.
