Ghana's High Commission in South Africa is urging calm following alleged xenophobic attacks targeting foreign nationals, including Ghanaians.
Ghana's High Commissioner to South Africa, Benjamin Anani Quashie, described the situation as unfortunate, noting that both Ghanaian and South African authorities are not pleased with the incidents.
He explained that such attacks tend to occur around local and municipal elections, suggesting there may be underlying political undertones. According to him, authorities in South Africa have assured that they will identify and bring perpetrators to justice.
He also encouraged Ghanaians living in South Africa to regularise their stay to avoid issues related to documentation and legal residency status.
