The Asokore Mampong Municipal Assembly, in collaboration with traditional leaders of the Zongo community, is rolling out stricter measures to regulate commercial rickshaw operators, popularly known as “pragya” or “Adeideta,” in Greater Kumasi.
The initiative aims to restore sanity on the roads, reduce traffic congestion, and curb rising road crashes linked to indiscipline among some operators.
Municipal Chief Executive for Asokore Mampong, Ben Abdullah Alhassan, says enforcement will begin on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, warning that there will be no leniency for offenders.
He urged operators to comply fully with road traffic regulations or face sanctions and possible prosecution, while also calling for the formal regulation and legalization of rickshaw operations as part of the transport system.
Ahead of the crackdown, a capacity-building workshop was held by the Office of the Asanteman Zongo Nkosuohene to improve compliance and promote safer operations.
