Major forest fires in Thailand worsen smog struggles | DW News

In just the last four months, more than 1,7 million people in Thailand have needed hospital treatment for respiratory conditions caused by air pollution. The data from the health ministry throws a spotlight on the country's struggle with smog.

The problem is most acute in Thailand's north, where agricultural burning after the harvest creates hazardous levels of smog every year. Earlier this week, the air quality in some northern Thai cities was measured as being among the world's worst.

And in the last few days, a huge forest fire in the area has been adding to the trouble.
