Vietnamese Ivory smugglers busted in Uganda | DW News

In Uganda, authorities have confiscated a large haul of 750 pieces of illiegal ivory and pangolin scales with a market value around eight million US dollars. The shipment has been smuggled from neighboring South Sudan. This is the largest seizure of wildlife contraband in the East African country, according to the Uganda Revenue Authority. Ugandan authorities have been stepping up efforts to crack down on illegal trading in elephant tusks, rhino horns and pangolin scales, especially to Asia. There, they sell for thousands of dollars a kilo for use in ornaments and medicines.
