📲 WhatsApp limits forwards to 5 recipients to check fake news | Al Jazeera English

WhatsApp has just announced it is limiting the number of people or groups a user can forward messages to from 20 to five. The messaging service, which is owned by Facebook, has 1.5 billion users worldwide and many are concerned that it is being used to spread fake news items with no real way of monitoring where they came from or the impact they have. The measure has reportedly reduced forwarding by 25 percent globally and more than that in India - which had one of the highest forwarding rates in the world. The application was accused of not doing enough to curb rumours and fake messages in India - which led to several killings and attacks.

Al Jazeera's Raheela Mahomed explains.
