WHO: Covid-19 'is circulating at a very intense level around the world'

The World Health Organization has warned that the Covid-19 pandemic is far from over, amid record infections in France, Germany and Brazil. As the highly transmissible Omicron strain spreads unabated around the world, Allyson Pollock, Clinical Professor of Public Health at Newcastle University, tells France 24 that "it's a very confusing picture just looking at the cases, because they include people who've got very mild disease and may even have no symptoms at all." Professor Pollock finds the rate of hospital admissions "very reassuring," concluding that "a much better indicator is what's actually happening in the hospitals and intensive care."
