Mali unrest: Displaced people afraid to go back home

More than 350,000 people had to flee their homes in Mali in 2020, according to the Norwegian Refugee Council, and aid agencies say a humanitarian catastrophe is unfolding in areas out of their reach. Last December, UN investigators told the Security Council that they suspect Malian defence and security forces of committing war crimes, killing those they are meant to protect. Mali's military took power last week in the second coup in 9 months, saying they can do what a civilian government cannot, and that is to restore state authority.
