But historian and architectural expert Jonathan Foyle has uncovered a radical theory: that parts of the hall may date back to Cardinal Wolsey, and its layout could reflect Renaissance ideas seen in Italian design. Was Hampton Court a masterpiece of Renaissance architecture before Henry VIII was around?
