GFA Relsease Coaches With CAF Certified Certificates

The Technical Directorate of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has since 2012 awarded Caf License A certificates to 153 trained coaches in the country.

The technical directorate of the FA in conjunction with the Confederation of African Football (Caf) organized three separates courses for local coaches to attain what hitherto was the elite qualification on the continent.

It began in July 2012 with a two-week training led by two Caf Instructors – the late Ben Koufie and Nigeria’s Chief Adeboye Onigbinde. The maiden course – an invitational one – saw 50 coaches undergo the training for two weeks.

In December 2013, as many as 33 coaches – dominated by ex-internationals – were taken through an “equivalence course” for five days to certify them as Caf License A holders.

The last exercise also had 70 coaches undertaking a two-week course in February 2016 to secure the certification.

Throughout the three separately held Ghana Caf License A coaching courses, only FIVE females participated – Edna Yeke, Dora Zutah, Zelia Iddi, Joyce Boateng Agyei and Mercy Ekua Tagoe-Quarcoo.

Per enforced Club Licensing requirements ahead of the 2019/20 Ghana football season, only coaches holding the Caf License A certificate or its equivalent qualify to become heads of clubs in the Premier League.
