Kotoko To Part Ways With Defender Abass Mohammed - Reports

One of Asante Kotoko’s left-back options, Abass Mohammed is set for the exit, Footy-Ghana.com understands.

The once-capped Ghana Black Stars player joined the Porcupine Warriors in October 2018 after returning home from a season’s spell in the United States with USL side Harrisburg Islanders.

Abass enjoyed a bright start to life at Kotoko during the 2018/19 Caf Confederation Cup campaign under former coach CK Akonnor. He was however denied a consistent run of games by intermittent injury setbacks.

Under recently sacked Norwegian coach Kjetil Zachariassen, the former Inter Allies defender hardly played any competitive game.

Management of Asante Kotoko have in recent days been auditing the squad which has seen decisions against renewing the contracts of experienced duo Augustine Sefah and Jordan Opoku.

Malian midfielder Mamadou Kouyate, who was signed only four months ago and was yet to play a competitive game for the club, has also had his contract terminated.

And club sources tell Footy-Ghana.com Abass Mohammed is next in line to be engaged in a mutual termination talks by the Kotoko management.

The exit of the 25-year-old will mean Kotoko will be left with two recognized left-backs in the first team in the shapes of Patrick Yeboah and Evans Owusu.

The Porcupine Warriors have been preparing for the upcoming 2019/20 Ghana Premier League without a substantive head coach. Assistants Johnson Smith and Akakpo Patron currently hold the fort.
