Coach Kwesi Appiah Leads Second Batch Of Black Stars Contingent To Abu Dhabi

Head Coach for the Black Stars of Ghana, James Kwesi Appiah on Sunday evening departed the shores of Ghana together with the second batch of the team to Abu Dhabi where they are expected to join the first set to start preparations towards the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.

The first contingent led by the acting GFA General Secretary Mr. Alex Asante, together with some of the players left the West African Country on Saturday, June 1, 2019.

The group that left today also has deputy coach for the Stars, Ibrahim Tanko, Stephen Appiah, General Captain Asamoah Gyan, Felix Annan, Yaw Yeboah, Thomas Agyapong, Majeed Waris and Fatawu Safiu.

Once they join the other batch in Abu Dhabi, they will start extensive training right from tomorrow towards the big task ahead of the team. The provisional 29-man squad will be trimmed down to 23 men who will be tasked to win a 5th AFCON title for the motherland.

Whiles in the UAE, Ghana will play two friendly matches against Namibia and South Africa on June 10 and June 15 respectively. Those two games will be used to test the strength of the team as well as to sharpen any loose ends.

The continental showpiece will start on June 21 and end on July 19. For the first time in the tournament’s history, 24 countries will battle for the ultimate glory.
