Winning AFCON 2019 Is Achievable – George Afriyie

Mr. George Afriyie

Aspiring Ghana Football Association (GFA) President, Mr George Afriyie has stressed that winning the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) is achievable whiles indicating that the target set for Coach James Kwesi Appiah is in no way far-fetched.

Ghana is bidding for her first AFCON title in over 3 decades and with just 50 days to the start of the 2019 edition of the prestigious tournament, the stakes look more difficult for James Kwesi Appiah and his technical team.

Even before the technical team comes out with their final squad for the tournament, the former GFA Vice President in an interview on Oman FM has revealed that he believes the target set for the gaffer to win gold in Egypt is something which is doable.

“Targets are set to be fulfilled but the fact that you are not able to achieve the target does not necessarily mean that they will show you the exit door. Those were his target and I still stand by it. I don’t want us to rule ourselves out. We can still win AFCON. It’s possible and its and achievable target”, Mr George Afriyie said.

Ghana has been pitted in Group F with Benin, Guinea Bissau and defending Champions Cameroon. The Black Stars will have to cross this hurdle if they want to bring home the trophy.
