CAF CC: Asante Kotoko Will Make An Impact In Group Phase - Maxwell Konadu

Assistant coach of the Black Stars, Maxwell Konadu has expressed his belief that Asante Kotoko will have a good campaign in the group stage of Caf Confederation Cup.

The Ghana Premier League heavyweights qualified for the group phase of the competition after recording a 5:3 aggregates scoreline against Coton Sport to book their group stage qualification after11 years.

Captain Amos Frimpong converted from the spot stayed composed to put Kotoko ahead from the spot on the stroke of halftime after a foul on Burkinabe striker Songne Yacouba in the vital area.

Maxwell Baakoh, doubled the lead in the 53rd minute with a brilliant effort.

Kotoko has been drawn against Al Hilal and Zambian duo Zesco United and Nkana FC in Group C.

However, the former Asante Kotoko gaffer is optimistic that his side can survive the group stage of the competition.

“I have to congratulate Kotoko because they have really proven that they are one of the best clubs in the country and on the continent," Konadu mentioned in an interview with Goal.

"At this stage, every club is in an excellent form but I am confident Kotoko will survive whichever group they will have after the draw.

“Irrespective of the clubs that they will be paired with, I’m expecting them to do a decent job and make it out.

He continued, "Two clubs will qualify from each group and that is not beyond them. Kotoko have a very good squad and technical team as well as an enviable fan base to achieve success this season.

“Everyone saw that the stadium was full to capacity against Coton Sport. The supporters wanted to be part of the story.

"I believe they will continue to rally behind the team in the group stage and make Baba Yara Sports Stadium an intimidating ground for opponents,” he added.

Kotoko will kick off their group-phase match against Al Hilal on Sunday 3rd February.
