61 Year Old American Mills Wins Women’s 5K Run

61-year-old Meredith Mills from California in the USA shocked many youth at the Marina Mall on Saturday morning when she run a good time to win the first ever Women’s 5K Run organized by the Millennium Marathon Sports Ltd.

South African Jemine Madiga was second and Abigail K. Asare, a student placed third in the race that attracted almost 1,000 participants.

The objective of the event was to raise awareness and funds for the country’s mental hospitals and educate the public to love people with mental problems.

Mrs. Catherine Morton, the race director expressed her joy over the participation and enthusiasm and contribution of participants in other events and challenges like washing with omo, squatting and tee shirt design competition.

Some girls schools in Accra took part in the race and they described it as very good and wished it was held frequently.

Mrs. Morton said it would be an annual affair and thanked the companies who supported like Melcom, Marina Mall, Zen Garden, Omo from Unilever, Blue Skies, Dark & Lovely, Verna Water from Twellium Ghana Ltd, PUSH by Esi Yankah, Numero Uno and Claron Health International.

Meredith Mills who also took the prize for the oldest competitor advised the youth to be consistent in everything that they do and never give up if it is positive.

She commended the organisers and urged other companies to join in creating a wealthy and healthy nation.

Aseda aka New Testament, a hip life gospel musician and athlete who place 8thsaid the event was great and prayed that more would be organized with more attractive prizes for winners.
