Thomas Partey Emerges As First Ghanaian Player To Lift UEFA Super Cup

Ghana midfielder, Thomas Partey has emerged as the first Ghanaian to lift the UEFA Super Cup after Atletico Madrid defeated city rivals Real Madrid 4:2 to lift the trophy on Wednesday night in Estonia.

The Atletico Madrid midfielder did not only play in the match but he set up the winning goal that helped the side to victory and banishes two previous attempts by Ghanaians to win the coveted title.

Assistant Black Stars coach, Ibrahim Tanko and Christian Gyan attempted in the 1997 and 2001 editions with Dortmund and Bayern Munich respectively but failed to win the title.

Partey broke the Ghana duck when he provided Saul with an intelligent lob that Saul dispatched with aplomb.

By that feat Partey becomes the first Ghanaian to win the UEFA Super Cup title as several top players from the country could not win.
