Abubakari Damba Wants “GFA” To Be Changed To “GFF”

Former Black Stars Goalkeeper Abubakari Damba

Former Real Tamale United and Great Olympics goalkeeper Abubakari Damba has disclosed that he wants the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to be changed to Ghana Football Federation (GFF).

According to the Ex-Black Stars goalie, it will be better for the various Regional Football Associations (RFA) to be autonomous and work whiles reporting the headquarters of the GFF in Accra.

“I also feel that instead of GFA, it should be changed to GFF so that all the regions are responsible and autonomous so that they can report to the headquarters in Accra”, Damba said in an interview on Asempa FM.

He explained that by looking at how things have been done in the past at the GFA, it will be best to change things because the Governance structure of the FA itself is calling for a change.

He believes the biggest problem in the running of football in the country has to do with Administrative direction.

He further indicated that it is only the GFA that the President is elected before the FA Regional representatives are elected. This he says is not done anywhere so it should be aborted for the right thing to be done when we have a new association.

He opines that once the President is elected before the Regional Representatives, the FA President can easily influence the regional FA Presidential elections to fix people who will agree to whatever he says.

In addition, Abubakari Damba proposed that going forward Government should take a critical look at domestic football and invest there rather than giving all the attention to just National teams.

“It is the government who finance the National teams and when you look at the past administrations, the whole emphasis was on the National teams. Domestic football was nearly relegated to the background, and that is where I think ‘government should be involved”.
