“Criteria Will Have To Be Met Before Accessing The Sports Fund”- Moses Foh-Amoaning

Former President of the Ghana Boxing Authority and panellist at the Stakeholders Consultative Forum for the National Sports Development Fund, Moses Foh-Amoaning, has revealed that sporting federations will have to go through a strict criterion before being able to access the Fund when it is established.

The Finance Ministry backed the Sports Ministry’s proposal for the Sports Fund in the 2018 budget reading last month, and the Ministry of Sports has begun preparations towards the establishment of the fund.

The Deputy Minister of Sports Pius Hadzide earlier this year outlined plans of the Sports Ministry to categorize and prioritize sporting federations ahead of the 2018 sporting season, and Moses Foh-Amoaning says certain indicators will have to be met in order for federations to be given the right to access the Fund.

“I have always made the point that we cannot all be the same. There will be provisions in the LI governing the Sports Fund as to how you can qualify to access the Fund,” he said.

“I have suggested that we have a Sports Associations League just as we have a football league so that there are clear-cut verifiable key performance indicators, like sponsorship and national visibility.

“This will ensure that if there are federations who do not meet the criteria they cannot access the funds.”
