Today In History: Richard Commey Beats Samir Ziani

On December 13, 2014, Ghana’s Richard Commey defeated France’s Samir Ziani in a lightweight contest at the MusikTeatret in Albertslund Denmark.

Commey was extended the distance for only the second time in his career, but he won a 10-round unanimous decision against Samir.

Before the fight, Commey had beaten Gary Buckland in July 2014 to win the vacant Commonwealth lightweight belt.

After Samir’s win, Commey recorded five straight wins, however, his unblemished came to an end when he lost via a disputed split decision to America’s Robert Easter Jr. on September 9, 2016 – at stake was the IBF world lightweight belt.
