GNPC Sponsorship With the Black Stars Intact – Sports Minister

Minister Hon. Isaac Asiamah, Youth and Sports has stated that the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) sponsorship package for the Black Stars is intact and will not be cancelled.

The Majority Leader in parliament Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu in an interview last week intimated that, the contract between the oil exploration firm and the Black Stars has been cancelled following an agreement between the Ministry of Mines and Energy and the latter to drop the sponsorship allocation from its budget for the year 2017.

This raised a lot of eye browse, but on Monday, the Sports Minister in an interaction with the media at his office said: “I speak as the Minister for Youth and Sports… The GNPC deal will continue, the support for the national team will continue.”

He continued: “We are going to ensure that we place much emphasis on transparency and accountability this time round. We will ensure that there is proper oversight by the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
