Achimota School Tops All

Achimota School proved to be the best school in athletics when it won both the girls and boys trophies in the Greater Accra Second Cycle Schools Zone Two athletics competition held at the Ohene Djan Sports Stadium.

Achimota School amassed a total of 94 points in the boys division to lift the giant trophy at stake. Nunsec (61pts), Presec Osu (58pts) and St. John's (40pts) followed in that order.

Armed Forces Sec Tech, Mansectech in Accra, and Wesley Grammar School tied for the fifth position with 34 points apiece to qualify for the superzonal competition.

In the girls' division,Achimota School once again emerged victorious with 70 points, beating Ahisco(56pts) to second place. Labone(46pts) placed third with Ada Sec Tech taking the fourth position. Presec Osu and St. John's Grammar School tied for the fifth position with 41 points each.

Osu Presec annexed the boys' table tennis trophy, with Ahisco also winning the trophy in the girls' division.

The Best Male Athlete award went to Sylvester Wellington of Presec Osu for winning the first position in the long jump and triple jump events.

Ivy Kolli of Ashiasec was adjudged the Best Female Athlete for winning the 800m and 1,500m events.Cynthia Kwabi of Ahisco was adjudged the Best Female player in the table tennis girls division,with Derrick Abrefa of Presec,Osu taking the best male player prize.

Ms Diana Welbeck, Headmistress of Presec Osu, performed the closing ceremony. Prizes were distributed to deserving athletes by Mr J.J. Asare (GASSA Chairman), Mr G.K.Adukpo (Vice-Chairman, GASSA), Mrs Joyce Ossei Agyekum (Treasurer GASSA), Mr Frank Bebli(Headmaster,Acquinas) and Mrs Jane Chinebuah (Headmistress,O'Reilly Secondary).
