Claudio Bravo's £17m deal to Manchester City confirmed, Joe Hart future thrown into doubt

Manchester City have confirmed the arrival of Claudio Bravo, with Barcelona confirming that the transfer is worth £17 million

New City boss Pep Guardiola has made no secret of the fact that he wanted a goalkeeper who is comfortable with the ball at his feet and he has got his man with Bravo signing a four year contract.

The announcement from City came hours after Barcelona confirmed that they had signed his replacement, Jasper Cillessen, from Ajax.

In a statement on their website Barcelona confirmed that it would be an initial fee of £15.4 million with a possible £1.71 million in add-ons.

Speaking to City's website Bravo said that the opportunity to work under Guardiola was too good to refuse.

"I’m very proud to be joining Manchester City. I know the Club is building something very special and I hope I can be part of many successes in the coming years.

"I have followed City’s progress in recent years and obviously know some of my new team-mates from the Copa America.

"It is not easy to leave a club like Barcelona where I had two fantastic years, but the opportunity to work with Pep Guardiola was too good to refuse.

"Now I will challenge the other great goalkeepers the Club has and together I hope we can win many trophies."

His new manager was equally enthusiastic about the deal, saying that he has been watching Bravo for a number of years.

"Claudio is a fantastic goalkeeper and an excellent addition to our squad.

"He has experience and great leadership qualities and is in the prime of his life. He is a goalkeeper I have admired for a number of years and I’m really happy he is now a City player."
