Uefa Champions League: Ghanaian Sulley Muniru exits competition with Steaua Bucuresti after Man City loss

Ghanaian midfielder Sulley Muniru suffered elimination from the Uefa Champions League competition with Romanian giants FC Steaua București following their second-leg defeat to English giants Manchester City on Wednesday night.

The 23-year-old midfield workhorse lasted 62 minutes for the Army Men as former Aston Villa midfielder Fabien Delph rose above his man to give Manchester City a commanding 6-0 lead on aggregate in the 56th minute at the Etihad Stadium.

Muniru, a younger brother of former AC Milan, Inter Milan and Sunderland star Sulley Muntari, had met Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho before the clash and suggested he was motivated to excel against City.

Steaua went into the second-leg at the Etihad on the back of a 5-0 first-leg loss and the task ahead looked daunting. But the Romanian top-flight dark-horse held the aces and managed just a 1-0 loss.

The former Liberty Professionals player gave away a penalty and lasted 67 minutes for Steaua in the first-leg loss.

Wednesday night exit means Muniru and his team-mates must now focus their attention on domestic competition as they seek a double in the league and Cup titles.
