Champions League Final: Ghana's Partey representing African interest

As Atletico Madrid takes on Real Madrid in this weekend's final of the UEFA Champions League, a key point of interest for most Africans will be the Ghanaian youngster, Thomas Partey.

Atletico's fans gathered outside the team's Hotel in Milan on Thursday evening to welcome Partey and his mates as they arrived ahead of the final.

The players briefly waved at a group of supporters, before entering their hotel. The 22-year-old Partey is seeking to become the sixteenth African player to win the UEFA Champions League on Saturday.

The team face their city rivals Real at the San Siro in a repeat of the 2014 final which saw Real come from behind to win 4-1 after extra-time.

Earlier on Thursday Atletico were given a boost with the news that coach Diego Simeone will be staying on next season.

President Enrique Cerezo said that the former Atletico player would remain at the club until at least June 2017, when his contract expires.
