CAF Champions League: Zesco United reach Group stage, former champions ES Setif and Zamalek qualify

Zesco United ended Zambia's seven year hiatus in the CAF Champions League group stages, beating Stade Malien 2-1 (5-2 on aggregate) at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium on Tuesday evening.

Jesse Were and Maybin Mwaba scored the goals as the Ndola-based club cruised into the group stages of the competition, following a 3-1 win in Bamako early this month.

The Zambian league champions are joined in the next round by 2014 CAFCL champions ES Setif.

The Algeria giants were held to a goalless draw on home soil, but progress into the group stages for the third year in a row, having secured a 2-2 draw in Sudan.

Moreover, Zamalek will make a return to the group stages of the competition following a 3-1 aggregate win over MO Béjaïa.

Ahmed Hamoudi scored a late equaliser at the Stade de l'Unité Maghrébine in a 1-1 stalemate.

The five time CAFCL champions won the reverse fixture 2-0.

The action resumes on Wednesday evening with five more group stage places up for grabs.
