19 children undertake Hapkido promotion test

Oyibi, April 4, GNA - Nineteen children have been taken through a promotion examination in Hapkido, a form of martial arts, to equip them with self-defense techniques and upgrade their knowledge on the Sport at Oyibi, in the Greater Accra Region.

The examination, the first of its kind in Africa and was organized under the auspices of the Chun Ki Do Association, Africa, aimed at graduating the children from their current colour belts to yellow, green and blue belts.

The Instructor at the promotion test, Mr. Adjei Da-Silveira is the Hapkido Africa Instructor and holds a 4th degree black belt in Taekwondo and a 4th black belt in Hapkido.

The first part of the examination, was the attention focus test, where exercises such as a written puzzle tests, as well as the three sets of punch and block were also demonstrated.

The second part of the examination, was to test the mental concentration and information processing, with a mathematics test, with a demonstration of blindfolding kicks, with the four set of kicks and the three set of block.

Other demonstrations such as the combination of two kicks, punch cover punch and board breaking were also exhibited.

Fifteen children Moved from the white to the yellow belt, whilst, one moved from the orange to green belt and three moved from green to the blue belt and were awarded certificates.

Mr. Raphael Sylvanus Akoto, President of the Chun Ki Do Association Africa, said Hapkido and Taekwondo is a self disciplined sport that helps to build character and attitude.

He said, it will help build the self confidence of the children and help them to break out of any aggression in their community.

Mr. Bernard Owusu Boateng, an Auxiliary Instructor and a black belt holder in Hapkido, urged parents to support the instructors to develop the sport among the children.

He said it would also help raise their academic performance.

The children were drawn from the Accra Grammar School, Valley View University Basic School, Ghanata Senior School, Vision Inspired Scholars, George Memorial Education Complex, Ena School, Willie banks School and Oyibi Presbyterian School.
