F.C Tanga Educate Parents To Support Their Talented Children

F.C TANGA has taken its Youth Mentoring Project, “LEARN HARD, PLAY HARD, EARN BIG” to the streets and Markets of Bolgatanga, in the Upper East region. The Club took advantage of the event to share F.C TANGA Aprons to petty traders, hackers and meat sellers in the Municipality.

F.C TANGA initiated the Project when the Club was playing in the Second Division League, as one of its Social Responsibility projects meant to give back to the public for their support.

Initially, the Project was geared towards creating awareness in Schools on the need for the youth to effectively combine their talent(s) with education, in order to build their personality and also brighten their chances of becoming successful with their talent or education.

Ahead of the commencement of the Division One League, Management of F.C TANGA decided to take the “LEARN HARD, PLAY HARD, EARN BIG” Project to Market women and a section of petty traders in the Bolgatanga Municipality. The reason is that, the parents of the children in school who are the main beneficiaries of the Project, also need to be sensitized on the reasons why they have to support their children to development their talents, and also learn hard at school.

One issue that has always surfaced in earlier meetings with students and young footballers in some schools is the role of their parents. Many of participants say, they hide to practice their talents and those who do not hide and have gone contrary to their parents’ warning, have suffered serious neglect by their parents, hence no support to develop their talent. This attitude, has compelled many would have been great footballers from Bolgatanga to stop playing and rather do what their parents want, in order to be given food and proper shelter.

Talking to some Market women, the C.E.O of F.C TANGA, Humul Khulsum Tahiru advised parents to guide their children and allow them to chase their legitimate passions, rather than forcing them to do things they are not passionate about.

"The reality is that, people are making a great deal of wealth from their talents and there is the need for parents to encourage their wards to bring out the best in them. Gone are the days when parents prevented their children from exhibiting their talents. If you have done that in the past, please the time has come for our children to be encouraged to learn what they love doing most…..that way, they will understand what they are doing and aspire to become the best in that field." She advised.

Miss Tahiru, later in an interview said, in as much as she loves to see mothers in the best of clothing, it is her wish that more mothers will cut down on the number of expensive clothing and jewelries they buy for themselves, and rather spend money on logistics that will help their children excel in their chosen fields.

“Football boots are not expensive, compared to some of the things our mothers buy. With a good boot and proper training, a low class player can become a top class player. However, regardless of one's talent and with the current turn of events and trends, one cannot make it without taking his/her education serious, so parent must ensure that the two are being developed. ” Miss Tahiru added.

A petty trader, Teni Azumah, was happy with the sensitization by F.C TANGA Management and Volunteers, saying, even though she has never stopped her son from playing football, she has never found time to talk to him about his needs.

“He follows his friends to go and play football, and when he returns in the evening, he will come and use all our water to bath. That thing makes me angry and I have always not been happy when he goes out to play ball. His results are good and I wish he could stop moving with his friends and concentrate on his books…. now that I know my role, I will take to him and see the help I can offer.”
