'I Was A Caged Lion Under Rodgers'

Mamadou Sakho has revealed his frustration at being left out by Brendan Rodgers but said he was helped by messages of support from former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard.

Rodgers preferred Dejan Lovren to Sakho at the heart of the Reds defence for the first five games of the season, before the Frenchman returned to the first-team against Bordeaux in the Europa League - when he captained the side.

His omission from the team fuelled rumors Sakho would move away from Anfield before the end of the summer transfer window, before the former PSG man signed a new contract.

But despite committing his future to the club, the 25-year-old has spoken of his frustration at sitting on the bench under the recently axed Rodgers.

‘Let’s say that during the short period when I was not playing, I was like a little caged lion who had not been fed for a while. And when you open the door, he charges,’ said Sakho.
