Kenyans win Rabat International Marathon

Rabat, April 20, GNA - Kenyan athletes, Julius Kimutai and Pamela Rotich, on Sunday set individual records of 2:10:36s and 2:30:21s respectively, winning the maiden Rabat International Marathon in Morocco.

Kimutai defeated two other Kenyans-John Kemboi 2:10:58s and Abraham Derbal 2:11:34 for the 11,000-dollar prize.

The 42,195 km race under the patronage of King Mohammed VI, was on the theme: 'Tolerance'.

Over 3,000 natives, including hosts of international athletes participated in the event, which was a prelude to the 8th Annual Mohammed the Sixth International Meeting, to be held later in the year.

It was also to commemorate a track and field competition for elite runners held in June last year as part of the 13-leg International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World Challenge.

The 10th finisher took home 1,000 dollars with winner for the half marathon race taking 2,000 dollars.
